Consultation on options for new shops to serve Cambridge’s north - west

City and South Cambridgeshire Councillors gave the go ahead on 13th July 2010  to a public consultation on four options for new shops to serve existing residents on the north –west side of Cambridge and those living on developments planned for the National Institute of Agricultural Botany’s site between Madingley Road and Huntingdon Road and on the University of Cambridge’s site between Madingley Road and Huntingdon Road.

The four options are:-

1. A superstore of 3,500 square metres south of Huntingdon Road on the university site

2. A superstore of 3,500 square metres north of Huntingdon Road on the NIAB site

3. Two supermarkets each of 2,000square metres at both the university site and NIAB

4. To restrict new retail provision in the area to that which is already planned i.e. 1,600 sq.m on the university’s site, 1,200 sq. m at NIAB and 600 sq. m at Orchard Park.

The consultation is scheduled to start on 6th September until 18th October.
